Hopi Elders Speak
(also entitled: "Message from the Hopi - People of Peace")
attributed to*:
The Elders, Hopi Nation, Oraibi, Arizona
We have been telling the people that this is the Eleventh Hour
Now we must go back and tell the people this is The Hour
And there are things to be considered:
Where are you living?
What are you doing?
Are you in right relation?
Where is your water?
Know your garden.
It is time to speak your truth.
Create your community.
Be good to each other.
And do not look outside yourself for the leader.
This could be a good time!
There is a river flowing now very fast
It is so great and swift that there are those who will be afraid.
They will try to hold on to the shore.
They will feel they are being torn apart and they will suffer greatly.
Know the river has its destination.
The Elders say we must let go of the shore, and push off and into the river,
keep our eyes open, and our head above the water.
See who is in there with you and Celebrate.
At this time in history, we are to take nothing personally.
Least of all, ourselves.
For the moment that we do, our spiritual growth and journey comes to a
halt.
The time of the lone wolf is over.
Gather yourselves!
Banish the word "struggle" from your attitude and your vocabulary.
All that you do now must be done in a sacred manner
And in celebration.
"We are the ones we have been waiting for...."

"Do you have a message for me to take to the people?" |

A special prayer for our Troops overseas from
Rabbi Maurice "Moe" Kaprow, CDR, USN,
Deputy Fleet Chaplain, US Sixth Fleet
PRAYER FOR AMERICAN MILITARY MEMBERS
Sovereign of the Universe! We invoke your blessings upon the members of our
American military forces, those brave men and women whose courage and commitment
to that for which this country stands protects us all.
Whether by air, land or sea, wherever their orders take them, we ask, dear
God, that they be protected within your sheltering presence. Shield them
from harm and from pain, assuage their loneliness, and sustain their faith
in the face of the formidable enemies that they confront on a daily basis.
May all of their efforts be crowned with victory, and the assurance that
we who depend on their courage appreciate and understand the great difficulty
of their work.
Most of all, we pray what for all soldiers is the ultimate prayer- that they
be privileged to return to the loving arms of their families and a grateful
country safely, speedily, and in good health. Because of their courage, may
we all be privileged to know and savor the blessings of true peace and security.
Amen.

If you go to the website,
www.LetsSayThanks.com
you can pick out a thank you card which Xerox will print and
will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq . You can't
pick out who gets it, but it will go to some member of the armed services. |
November 11 is Veterans Day
but we should be grateful to our veterans and service men and women every
day of the year. So call someone you know who served and say
"Thank You!" |

What is the difference between Veterans Day and Memorial Day?
Many people confuse Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Memorial Day is a day
for remembering and honoring military personnel who died in the service of
their country, particularly those who died in battle or as a result of wounds
sustained in battle. While those who died are also remembered on Veterans
Day, Veterans Day is the day set aside to thank and honor ALL those who served
honorably in the military - in wartime or peacetime. In fact, Veterans Day
is largely intended to thank LIVING veterans for their service, to acknowledge
that their contributions to our national security are appreciated, and to
underscore the fact that all those who served - not only those who died -
have sacrificed and done their duty. [from va.gov FAQ] |

Poetry
I have these two arms
January 2008
by MaryJo Martin
[about]
they do not hold the gun
but they do hold up a picket sign for peace
regardless
wars are waging
so what does this mean
to support the troops
but not the war?
every dollar I spend in this country helps to fund the fight
every day I spend in freedom
is a day that ships another son to war
a day that holds the tears that fall
for loved ones torn apart
a day when people innocent and not so
lay down their lives
it seems such a strange duality
and the line between "them" and "me" (soldier or civilian)
is more a matter of luck
than choice
today in my little town
no bombs explode
my husband fixes dinner while I type
and my daughter naps on the sofa
zip code
birth order
economic status
race
role models
tweak any of the above
and I'd be out there too
wishing I were home
or that my home
wasn't burning
sometimes I feel like a candy ass
and that is especially so
when I get on my high horse for peace
and pretend that I am innocent

If You Are Lucky in This Life
If you are lucky in this life
A window will appear on a battlefield between two armies.
And when the soldiers look into the window
They don't see their enemies
They see themselves as children.
And they stop fighting
And go home and go to sleep.
When they wake up, the land is well again.
